Agia Marina

Agia Marina is one of the various kiteboarding spots in Crete, is located west of the village of Platanias. Platanias is located some 10km (6.2miles) east of Chania (or Hania or Xania), the second largest city in Crete. I don’t think I have to tell you where Crete is located, not when Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.

Sailing conditions

The best months to go to Agia Marina for wind are June, August, and November. You can also go in July – this month can prove to be pretty good as well. The wind blows from the N and NW (side onshore) in the morning and in the afternoon. From mid-May to mid-September the strong, dry Meltemi winds blow from the north. This thermal wind varies in speed from 15 up to 30 knots. The water conditions are suitable for riders of all levels, from the novice who is just now picking up the basics up to the expert who wants to have a bit of fun. Speaking of fun, the conditions in Agia Marina are ideally suited for bump and jump, and freestyle riding. The climate in Crete is mainly temperate (Crete straddles two climatic zones, the Mediterranean and the North African). During the summer in Crete the temperatures can exceed 30°C. This means you will definitely not need a wetsuit. The following facilities are available: school, rescue, toilets, showers, food, and parking.
