Basically it doesn’t matter which kind of sports you choose: There are always people who can spoil the fun for everyone.  Sometimes more, sometimes less and often times it’s just small things which get on our nerves. But nevertheless you have to wonder where some people lost their good manners. It doesn’t matter if you are on the top of a mountain or at the beach – we should always take a big amount of respect, fairness and courtesy with us.Mostly these things happen without any bad intention (and there are so many thins which just happen in the heat of the moment, because one is completely stoked or just due to inattentiveness or forgetfulness – that’s human. And it can happen to everyone of us, from rookies to experienced kiters or instructors.)  For this very reason I think it’s important to raise this issue to remind, which behaviours to practice and which to avoid – and to think about basic kitesurf behaviour rules.

How To Avoid Getting Your Kite Wrapped Around Lamp Posts

There are several effects which will cause changes in the wind speed and we need to be aware of them when flying a kite if we are to have a pleasant experience and stay safe. In this lesson we cover the 4 major effects which you need to know about before you go and hoist and kite. Please don’t just read this page once and forget about it, instead try to notice the effects as your out and about during the day…believe me, being able to spot the signs of any of these effects can mean the difference between a great day flying the kite and an awful one.

The NoWo is  going to make kitesurfing safer and a lot more fun by providing a whole lot of features to use right on the water. With the NoWo, when one of you gets into an emergency situation, a distress signal will be sent to the others showing his exact location so help can find him right away. Also, should you ever loose your board the NoWo will show its position so you can retrieve it hassle-free.

Kitesurf costs more than Ping Pong, but let’s be honest it’s worth every cent. Plus once you’ve got your kit there’s no admission fee, no booking a slot or waiting for the right time and you’re good to go whenever there’s breeze (and that  has to be more exciting than Ping Pong right?!). Greece is the paradise country to kitesurf almost all year!!

We listen many times  that windsurfing is better than kitesurfing or the opposite. I think that both sports are a great way to have fun on the water. Working at a surf center many people asked the same question: Which is better, windsurfing or kitesurfing? I will provide many complete answers for those not knowing which of these to choose.

Kiteboarding is a derivative of wakeboarding. Yes, there’s a dramatic difference between the pull, but wakeboarding has been and continues to be a strong influence to the kite side of things. I’m sure most of you have seen a board with boots, mounted up. Although most riders prefer straps when they start to kite board. If you’re capable of riding upwind and performing simple jumps and transitions  you can try the boots! Yes, its a little bit difficult to your launching and landing situation. It can be difficult in on-shore conditions with waves.

Straps allow for much greater range of motion than boots, which creates a slight decrease of leverage on the board. They also can have the tendency to release when not desired, making for an interesting situation. Look at PKRA podiums for the past few years, you’ll see that more and more of the world’s top level talent tossing their straps in the trash in exchange for boots. Youri Zoon, Alex Pastor, and Alberto Rondina to name a few.

The technique for light wind takes a little more thought than many might imagine but with just a few helpful pointers and a little practice you can transform your sessions. Lightwind riding is a real work out for your body, you can’t just hang off the kite, like in strong winds, you need to hold your body in the correct positions, balancing your weight against the kite. A great work out for your upper back and oblique muscles. There are two parts to consider – getting up and the board moving & then keeping yourself going (both of which we cover in details in the full video). But its actually more than that, we all want to stay upwind so rather than just getting loads of speed and shooting off downwind we need to get a little more technical.

What is the wind window?

Understanding the concept of the wind window is critical if you want to progress in the sport of kiteboarding. The wind window is the fundamental theory behind kiteboarding. Kites fly within the wind window, so you must learn how to manage the edge/neutral zone, the intermediate/soft zone, and the power zone.

Wind is the most important thing for kitesurfing and we trust the best sites to check it. WindGURU is a service specialized for forecasting weather, mostly for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Forecasts are based on data produced by weather forecast models. Windguru is able to provide forecast for any place on planet Earth. The main reason to create this site was the idea to get the forecasts quickly and easily without wild clicking the mouse while searching for meteomaps throughout the internet.

We make short video how you can read the weather on www.windguru.cz

Now you’ve chosen a board you might be a little uncertain as to what the best setup is for your footstraps and pads. In the past this was limited to simply how wide your stance would be (ie. how far apart you place the pads/straps).

Imagine riding on a silver-lit surface, where even the wind will sound more gentle and quiet, and where you will see the dark water passing under your kiteboard with nuances you’ve never seen before. The moonlight, once you get used to it, is really strong and can allow you to see almost as in daylight, but with an unusual new flavor. A full moon night kitesurf session is not the best situation to try our favorite tricks or to ride big waves, but it has its own original magical aspects.

The analysis of winds and global weather conditions before a kiteboarding session is a paramount safety procedure. Before preparing your gear and launching the kite, spare a few minutes assessing the sky and its clouds, its necessary to have a good kiteboarding session. Kiteboarding demands an intelligent approach to clouds. They often tell us how the weather is at the moment, but also what can be heading our way. Normally, your eyes can reach very far away. From where you’re about to hit the water, it’s possible to get a circular view of dozens of miles. We also know what’s not good for kiteboarding.

Grabbing your board is the first step into the complex world of kite tricks.

When you’re out in the water, try bending one leg while keeping the other one straight to make the board come closer to you. This will enable you to reach it easier. There are nine back hand (B) kiteboard grabs, and ten front hand (F) kite grabs. The Rocket Grab is the only kiteboard grab that it is performed with both hands. Ready to pull them one by one?

Self-launching a kite can be dangerous, especially if you’re a beginner or even an intermediate rider, and in winds over 15 knots. If there’s nobody available to help launch your kite, then learn how to do it safely by yourself.

An assisted launch is always the best way to get your kite flying in the sky. However, advanced kiteboarders may launch their own kites, as along as they follow basic safety rules. You may be forced to abort launch for multiple reasons.

Learning how to land a kite is a requirement for beginners and advanced kitesurf riders.

Sometimes you’re alone in the water and on the beach. You don’t have friends and family to help you land your kite. What should you do? The answer, although a dangerous one, is self-landing (for intermediate & advanced riders only).

Many may think it’s a trivial skill to learn, but to do it well, jump high and land softly every time, that is something that takes practice and understanding of your kite. There are so many different elements that add to that perfectly timed floaty jump. You can break it down in to 3 obviously stages.

There are many theories about how to pick “what you want to be when you grow up” and most times, what you wanted to be has nothing to do with what you will end up doing… unless you really commit to it.  The “kick in the butt” method has proven its way throughout history and is definitely the most efficient one.To start in a sport as a pro, there are no secrets: you have to train. You have to be sending it and trying over and over and over.

We all love to get out there and land a new trick. If you are learning your first kitesurfing jump or are just trying to nail that front mobe, it all comes down to the same points.  When we land a new trick our muscles remember the positions that we put our self in and they remember it. You need to spend as much time on the water as possible. If you are only riding 10-20 times a year your progression in kitesurfing will be limited and you might in fact just be learning new tricks over and over again. You need to have at least 40 or more two hour sessions a year for your progression to show.
