Red Bull Coast to Coast

Two years after its spectacular debut, the legendary event Red Bull Coast 2 Coast is finally back in Fehmarn.  600 participants will face the challenge of their lives by taking part in the toughest kitesurfing marathonin the world – kiting from coast to coast, 40km across the rough Baltic Sea.  At Red Bull Coast 2 Coast, the participants have to complete the journey from the German island of Fehmarn all the way to the Danish coast and back again. Despite strong swells and heavy currents, the distance has to be completed in one go – no breaks allowed.

Only those who find the perfect combination of kitesurfing technique, strategy and endurance will give themselves a chance to emerge from the water victorious. The toughest test of kitesurfing on the planet is back after making its debut two years ago. On September 19 a record number of kitesurfers will set off from the German island of Fehmarn towards Rødbyhavn on the Danish coast before heading back across the Baltic Sea. A total distance of 40km lies ahead for the 600 participants who have successfully applied to enter Red Bull Coast 2 Coast.

In just 1h6m20s, Florian Gruber crossed the Baltic Sea straight to the Danish coast and back to Germany to be crowned 2015 Red Bull Coast 2 Coast champion. After a mastered turn around the buoy at the Danish coast, Gruber just raised his speed on the return leg to Germany’s Fehmarn island and comfortably took to top step on the podium. The challenge was hard, but the conditions even harder for the 500 participants who faced the challenge to ride the 40km distance across the Baltic Sea without rest. What does that look like? Check out the pictures below to get an idea of the toughness of this unique race.
